Relation Within or Beyond Identity

Once again last night I just wrote 'til I had to go to sleep but really didn't finish with what I was saying, or trying to say. I don't think these posts have much in the way in the accessibility, but none of them have, and I just can't help myself from getting into the nitty-gritty with the history of my own creative work, even though that means I'm now speaking a philosophical language no one can understand. Perhaps that's the goal of these posts, is to boil down the biography into philosophy, to move forward having completed a bit of a self-analysis that's emerging here.  In the first post of this series, of which this is the third, I argued about the opposition of the Successive and the Integrative Processes, or Principles. Basically the succession is the movement forward, which continually disavows itself in self-rejective phases. This means perpetual conflict and discovery, and I connect this idea to my early album Pretentious Double Album, the first d...

The Dialectic of Comedy

I had to wrap up the previous post quickly, and interrupt its flow of wanderings, because the place I was typing at was closing, so this post is a sort of continuation of that post, but we'll see what uniquely characterizes it. But as I look over my creative history, I see more and more of the intellectual principles in play in all their permutations, and essentially see two phases, one which leads, very briefly, in my formative years from A to B, which sort of completes the commencement, and immediately following B, the main direction is between B to A, but this movement, going against the flow of time, against succession, takes five times as many years to manifest. Along the way of the long road from B to A, we meet dialectical synthesis, AB, as the solution to the division between A and B. For me A is the formalism, the rock n' roll formalism of a songwriter, and B is the avant-garde ethos of experimentation--A is continuity and B is discontinuity, A is speech, and B is ima...

The Tower Falls into the Horizon

It's been a while since I've added to this blog, and my thoughts have traveled far afield from the April 12th most recent post, Jokes vs. Satirical Art . But lately a principle has emerged that has announced itself--perhaps very appropriately with respect to the significance of the blog itself--as something worthy of this blog, something that should be pushed along with my writings on this blog.  What I was struggling with before seems to be the Lucifer versus Satan problem, which I am viewing as my poetry vs. comedy problem, and trying to find a dialectical synthesis, to be beyond the Luciferic vanity of the artist and simultaneously beyond the Satanic sadism of the comedian. I find this heroic element in satirical art, which is the poetic art which also has a critical stance, not a self-congratulation. In general I am even more strongly opposed to a dialectical completion to a problem than I apparently was then, and opposed to the ideology of balance. My last paragraph...
